“Lazy Genius” Your Social Media: Create a Strategy to Know What to Say and When To Say It

Part 2 of the social media marketing series that I am doing is to help you get in the zone and master your social media game.

Create a Strategy to Know What to Say and When To Say It

In part one of this series, we talked about decluttering your mind by withdrawing yourself from the use of social media and instead centering your thoughts on creating a robust social media marketing strategy narrative. In this next step, I will give you tips on creating a strategy for your social media game. Learn the best time when to say and what to say for your message to rise above the noise.

My favorite author and podcaster are Kendra Adachi also known as The Lazy Genius. Her mantra in life is to “Be a genius about what matters and lazy about what doesn’t.” I’m assuming that as a professional or small business owner, online marketing matters to you. At least on some level. The following is my story about how I learned to “Lazy Genius” my social media presence using the 13 principles in her book The Lazy Genius Way.

There are two things to remember in this step: choose your content pillars and start small

DECIDE ONCE – CHOOSE YOUR CONTENT PILLARS

Are you overwhelmed with where to start or what to post on social?

Creating content pillars is a great way to eliminate decision fatigue regarding “What should I post on social media?” Decide in advance what topics you will be focusing on in your branding content and social media marketing strategy—these need to be a mix of personal and professional issues. Marketing experts refer to these as “Content Pillars” In general, content pillars follow these three themes.

  • Connect – Connect with your followers, this is the first step in any relationship, and connection builds the know, like, and trust factor to help your clients feel comfortable working with you.
  • Invite – Behind the scenes + Invite your followers into your world. This is a chance to let your followers know who you are and what you are all about.
  • Position – Position yourself as the expert. Let them know how they can come to you for help.

START SMALL

“I don’t know where to start. Showing up on social media seems intimidating, and I just don’t know what to say.”

Start with this posting strategy 3X a week in your feed.

  • A Simple Introduction Post
  • Behind The Scenes post
  • Educate your followers.

Don’t overthink this! You are starting small. The most important thing is getting into a rhythm of posting 3X a week. You can repeat this formula and mix in a few personal photos and portfolio images to create a connection with your client and show your zone of genius!
