“Lazy Genius” Your Social Media: Crafting a Social Media Marketing Strategy by Tuning Down the Noise

Have you ever been in the phase where your main goal regarding social media marketing strategy was just posting as much as possible? That may have worked at first, but as your competition becomes tougher and consumers get smarter, you have to change that game. In today’s online marketing world you need to have an intentional plan; it must connect with your audience, invite them into your world, and position you as the expert in your industry.

My favorite author and podcaster are Kendra Adachi also known as The Lazy Genius. Her mantra in life is to “Be a genius about what matters and lazy about what doesn’t.” I’m assuming that as a professional or small business owner, online marketing matters to you. At least on some level. The following is my story about how I learned to “Lazy Genius” my social media presence using the 13 principles in her book The Lazy Genius Way.

In my branding sessions, I do social media-ready photos that can help you map out your content for the whole year, but in my experience, that only answers around 70% of your problem. As an entrepreneur, it’s still essential to fill in the remaining framework with fresh content that has been intentionally planned and mapped out.

In this 3-part series, I’ll give you tips to help you get in the zone and master your social media game. I’ll offer my strategies,  which I also apply in my business, for creating a powerful social media marketing strategy that will help your brand.

REDUCE GENERAL SOCIAL MEDIA OVERWHELM

Let’s begin by reducing your social media overwhelm. Keep your eyes on your paper, and be in touch with your vision and your purpose. Let’s start mapping out a powerful strategy by decluttering the mind:

ESSENTIALIZE – THE GIFT OF FOCUS

#1 Quiet Your Space

Like most people, social media is a big part of your life. You probably spend at least a few hours every day scrolling through your various feeds, reading articles, watching videos, and connecting with friends and family. But what if you took a social media fast for a few days and started reconnecting with your mind? Declutter your headspace and manifest ideas that will help you achieve your goals.

#2 Start with the end in mind.

Content Creation or creating a social media marketing strategy should be focused, relevant and consistent, so your audience knows what they are getting from you. Curation is more than just posting photos on social media. It’s about creating captivating stories for people to want more of them!

My branding work with clients is to create connections and raise brand awareness. I do this by intentionally helping them curate content. The result should be an engaged audience hungry for your message – whether new information or just a refresher on what you’ve already shared before!

Remember these questions :

  • Who do you serve?
  • What is your zone of genius?
  • How can they come to you for help?

NAME WHAT MATTERS – YOUR BATTLE CRY

Social media is a minefield of pressure and expectations. Do you feel the weight to post daily but find yourself overwhelmed with no time or energy for anything else?

The key to making your social media an effective marketing tool is showing up consistently and serving the people with relevant content that will develop their knowledge. Like them, trust you as an expert. I know this can be overwhelming, but when we have routines in place, our online presence helps us reach those who would never have had access otherwise to get the word about what’s happening at your business or organization.

I get it – creating quality content can be challenging! But let me show you how easy (and fun!). Use these guide questions to help you out :

What do you want to say to your dream clients? What is your mantra or battle cry?

A few examples:

  • Love hard, sell soft ~ Lori Nordstrom
  • Create “Learn From Me Content” vs. “Look at me content” ~ Jonathan Tilley
  • Encouraging Women Over 40 to Show Up in their Business ~ Boise Boutique Social
  • What is your Battle Cry? Make it work for you!
