Y’all know my favorite place to capture your family memories is in an at home family photography session!  The home is the place where your children will remember jumping on the trampoline, catching bugs in the yard and just being a kid.  The home is a huge part of your lives and the heart of your family.  The place where memories are made!  It is also a place of rest and an escape from the pressures of the everyday world.  It is where your children will return to time and time again when they are adults and they reflect on their childhood memories.  Your home deserves to be photographed and a permanent place in your family photo album.

Four reasons I prefer at home family sessions for the families that I photograph.

  1. In-home sessions tend to be more relaxed and carefree.  Your kids are in a familiar place among their toys and their surroundings.  It is so much easier for them to just be themselves in a session.  The formality goes away and they can run, play and be kids.
  2. Parents tend to be more relaxed as well.  The pace is more natural and we can ebb and flow as needed.  No stressful car ride to the photo location with a stern conversation with the kids telling them they need to behave, do what the photographer says and smile for the camera.  And Dad’s become extremely tense in these situations.  This is a huge stressor for many families and I can see it on their faces when they pull up.  They arrive at an unknown family photo location and everyone is tense!
  3. At home, I encourage your family to relax and be yourselves.  If the kids need a snack then,  grab a snack.  If the parents want a glass of wine on the patio while we are doing the session, then, by all means, grab that glass of wine.  The session takes on a relaxed feeling and your family simply enjoy your home and your time together.
  4. We can incorporate all the things that your family loves.  Basketball, riding bikes, smores by the firepit, etc.  I love the take the last half of the session and just let your family play, have fun and I capture all of your family memories along the way.

Meet the Clapp family!

This sweet family chose to do their family session in their backyard.  We did a combination of formal portraits in their backyard and down at the lake in their neighborhood.  It was the perfect combination.  The evening was relaxed and the kids were full of life, fun, and ideas that they wanted to incorporate into their session.  The session ended with the kids and me jumping on the trampoline and capturing their fun, crazy and daring personalities.  I can’t think of a better way to end a session.  Thank you to the Clapp family for trusting me to capture your family memories!
