How to get Dad relaxed and excited about your family photo session! I hope you are enjoying this short 4-part blog series about preparing your family for a photo session. Today we are talking all about DAD! Your sessions will be fun and enjoyable and Dad will make some beautiful memories with his kids.
My number one piece of advice is that parent’s set the tone for a session.
Children will mirror your mood and emotions. If you are stressed, worried about getting good photos or that your children will behave, they will pick up on that. This is when the wheels can start to fall off. Therefore, getting dad excited about spending time with his kids is key to preparing for your family session.
Your family photo session will play off the fun + loving relationship that children have with their father.
Dad’s love the tickle, toss the baby in the air and chase their little ones around. That is exactly what he will be doing at your family session. I even have fun prompts for older kids and teens that engage them with Dad. We always leave the last half of your session for fun + candid shots. The motion allows you to relax and creates a natural expression. This is usually when the best images are captured!
Keep in mind that we all tend to remember our parents at the age that they are currently.
Your children will not remember you as a young parent in your 30’s or 40’s when they are grown. This is why it’s so important to capture this beautiful season of life and the essence of your family + their childhood. Parents hire me to take the family photos, but I also know I’m taking them for those sweet children and their children too. Your grown children will look back and remember those beautiful moments + loving connection they had with their mom + dad. Photos are the one thing that stands the test of time.
