Today I’m looking back on the “Best of 2016” in my 366 Project. Documentary photography is my absolute favorite way to photograph my own boys. I love to see their genuine connections + laughter and capture them naturally in their everyday environment. They are rarely asked to look at the camera or smile. In fact, they know when I have my camera out they should just go about doing whatever it is they were doing. I want to freeze in time these memories of exactly how they are which includes athletic clothes, hats on backwards and no shoes on most days. I can see them changing before my very lens on some days. These years will pass to quickly and I want to look back on all the bitter + sweet moments that we had together as a family. I want them to have documentary photos of memories in their happy place + the home that they spent so much time as a child. I truly aim to capture the heart of our home and family in my 365 images. The photos that I have taken over the past two years are my favorite possession that I own.
If I could leave you with one thought it would be to document your everyday and print those images. (More on that later in a future blog post!) You don’t have to have a fancy camera + lenses to capture your own beautiful story. Take your iPhone + point and shoot or DSLR camera where you go and use it as your life’s diary. Photography the beautiful gifts in every day life. My journey over the past two years has really taught me gratitude and to look for God’s beauty and grace each day.
My prayer is that God will take you on an amazing journey over the coming year. Happy 2017!
